Gov. Perry sends Dublin DP to Michigan's Gov.

Gov. Perry and Gov. Granholm Place Friendly Wager on NCAA Women's Basketball Championship Game

AUSTIN – Gov. Rick Perry today placed a friendly wager with Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm on the 2005 NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Championship game tonight between the Baylor Bears and the Michigan State Spartans.

“I have great confidence that the Lady Bears will be 1-0 in Division I basketball championship games after tonight,” said Perry. “The entire State of Texas will be watching as Baylor continues its tradition of rising to the challenge in big games.”

When Baylor wins, Gov. Perry will send Gov. Granholm Blue Bell ice cream and a case of Dublin Dr. Pepper to eat at her desk wearing a Baylor jersey. In the unlikely event Michigan State prevails, Gov. Granholm will send Mackinaw fudge and a case of Vernors to Gov. Perry to be enjoyed at his desk, wearing a MSU jersey.

“The state of Michigan will be rooting for the lady Spartans when they take the court tonight,” Granholm said.  “They have made an inspiring run through the tournament, and we have enormous confidence they will come through with a victory in tonight’s game.”

This is the first trip to the NCAA National Championship for both the Baylor and the MSU women’s basketball teams.

Story Update:

"The only thing sweeter than these Texas treats would have been a Spartan victory in the championship game," Granholm said.

Governor Granholm Makes Good on Wager with Texas Governor

Governor Jennifer M. Granholm today made good on her friendly wager with Texas Governor Rick Perry.  The Governor donned a Baylor Bears basketball jersey to enjoy a serving of Blue Bell ice cream and Dr. Pepper sent by Governor Perry.

“The only thing sweeter than these Texas treats would have been a Spartan victory in the championship game,” Granholm said.  “The lady Spartans played an outstanding season of basketball, and the state of Michigan thanks them for representing us so well in the championship game and throughout the entire tournament,”

Governor Granholm and Governor Perry made their bet on the outcome of the 2005 NCCA Division I Women’s Basketball Championship game between the Michigan State Spartans and the Baylor Bears on April 5.  The Bears won with a score of 84-62.
