Interview with the Governor

We here at Dublin Dr Pepper are extremely  proud of our Texas heritage. We share that pride with our great state’s Governor, Rick Perry. We’ve been honored to have Governor Perry attend each of our birthdays since 2002. His participation in our charity 10k run is a highlight of the annual birthday celebration. Recently, the Dublin Dr Pepper Gazette’s Star Reporter Brianna Henneke got a chance to talk to Governor Perry.

Is it true that you have a personal stock of Dublin Dr Pepper at the Governor's Mansion?
It's true that we try to keep a stock of Dublin Dr Pepper in the Governor's mansion.  Anita, the kids and I are obviously big fans and it's great to have for the numerous social events that we host in the mansion throughout the year.  To be completely honest, though, the Dublin Dr Pepper rarely makes it to the big events at the Mansion because my family manages to confiscate it the moment it arrives.

You're a big proponent of fitness. What are your suggestions about making exercise a bigger aspect of everyday life?
Good physical fitness should be more than just a hobby, it should be a way of life.    Good health is important to all of us.  By exercising for merely 30 minutes a day, a few days each week, Texans can reduce the odds of disease and illness, lower the cost of health care and live healthier and more productive lives.

Building a healthier Texas is one of the top goals of my administration, and there are dozens of ways to become physically fit. Jogging, rowing, walking, swimming, skating and biking all come to mind. But this is about more than just setting aside a couple of hours each week for physical activity. It's about incorporating physical activity in virtually all aspects of our lives.

You often run in community event/charity runs. What do you derive most from those runs?
Exercise is essential to my life and something that I encourage all Texans to do.  I am lucky to have had the opportunity to participate in numerous charity runs and bike rides around the state.  In fact, within the last year I completed my first triathlon and my first full marathon.   Besides the obvious health benefits, exercise affords me the opportunity to reflect and focus my thoughts on upcoming events.  It is a great stress reliever.  Participating in races around the state, like the Dublin Dr Pepper 10K, also allows me to enjoy some of the great communities in Texas.

If you could have a Dr Pepper with any three people (alive or not), who would they be and why?
Not much to think about here as I often enjoy a Dublin Dr Pepper with my three favorite people: my wife, Anita; my daughter, Sydney; and my son, Griffin.
